(Wass, 2012) Students learn best by collaborating with other peers and the community and completely immersed in the target language in the classroom. Three approaches to teaching allow student-centered learning: Principled Eclecticism, Communicative Language Teaching, and Sociocultural Learning. (Richards & Rodgers, 2014) Brown and Lee (2015) suggest the Principled Eclectic Approach (PEA) fits Language learners with diverse backgrounds, goals, environments, and learning styles. Within principled eclecticism, we are not limited to the rules of one method but are free to use a wide range of methods and resources to teach and address a particular topic (Chernus et al., 2022). Fossilization is a prevalent issue in the classroom. (Gao, 2020) To avoid this, students benefit from a brief audiolingual of the target language at the beginning of the class to encourage memorization, practice, and ensure accuracy with the teacher’s support. (Brown & Lee, 2015) Richards & Rodgers (2014) state that communicative language teaching (CLT) is an approach where teachers prioritize students' communication and interaction skills. The students are encouraged to use language for meaningful purposes. An example is distributing questions to each group. These questions require deep thought and discussion amongst the students, which utilizes their skills. Students working together and consistently using their sign language skills benefit from practicing fluency by learning from one another and working together. The interactional model (Richards & Rodgers, 2014) will be utilized in the classroom. According to Richards & Rodgers (2014), Sociocultural learners will acquire new and improved skills through social interaction. Richards & Rodgers (2014) suggest that language skills can only grow with understanding the culture behind the language. Collaborative dialogue scaffolds the learning process by providing support and gradually reducing support. (Richards & Rodgers, 2014) Various ways to amplify language dialogues and culture by establishing language labs with Primary language tutors and staff. Students learn best from immersion, collaboration, and real-world experiences. This approach will allow students to develop and improve communication skills in the target language while focusing on conveying and receiving messages. These approaches empower the students to utilize their skills outside the classroom. References: Brown, H. D., & Lee, H. (2015). Activities

ASL@Home Ch 1-3 Supplemental Activity

I've designed an activity to complement the ASL@home curriculum, aimed at reinforcing its teachings. While I didn't develop the curriculum itself, I took the initiative to create this supplementary activity to enhance the learning experience. These activities serves as a valuable resource for learners looking to deepen their understanding of American Sign Language in a dynamic and engaging way.
